Pacific Mexico: San Pancho Community Update (January 2017)

by S-Trip! Staff, 3 years ago

S-Trip! Destination: Pacific Mexico, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Site Visit, December 2016

This past holiday season, one of our Sales Managers visited Puerto Vallarta, including a morning spent at our amazing community partner organization, EntreAmigos! He got a tour of this unique community centre from its founder, Nicole, who has done amazing things for San Pancho over the last ten years. In summer 2016, S-Trip! travelers contributed their time to help build a playground on the EA property. It is half done now, which is enough for local kids to flock to it after their classes at the school, which is located 5 minutes down the road.

The photos below were taken over the holiday season, but during a regular day, the playground is covered with children, and parents literally have to pull their kids off of it at the end of the day! Nicole and the team at EntreAmigos have installed lights around the playground, so that local children can keep playing after dark and still feel safe! Nicole hopes to plant trees, start a garden, and install some benches later this year so that parents can watch over their kids comfortably.

The community has made progress on the playground at EntreAmigos since our travelers left in July - enough that local kids can enjoy it!

Not only is EntreAmigos a beautiful multi-use facility that offers tons of programs for people of all ages in the community, our Sales Manager, Eric, learned that EA is one of the biggest employers in San Pancho, with 35 staff, second only to La Patrona Polo Club, with 135 staff. We're so happy to be able to support community programs as well as the local economy in San Pancho!

Check out Eric doing the 'robot' with the 'recycling robot' at EntreAmigos! This robot was made out of recycled materials, which are plentiful at this facility. EA handles the recycling for the whole San Pancho community - they sort it, sell what they can, and use the salvageable materials to create toys, household goods, and souvenirs that are for sale in their gift shop!
