S-Trip! Destination: Cayos of Cuba, Cayo Coco, Cuba
Summer 2016
We were so pleased to return to Cayo Coco for a second time this year! After a great first time together in March, we teamed up again with the community of El Tuero to work on more projects in their only school, Escuela Primaria Angel Gutierrez, and of course, to make more memories!
As always, the cultural exchange automatically put a smile on our travelers’ faces as the local kids welcomed us with traditional Cuban poetry, dances, and songs.
After getting to know each other a little more and touring around their community, we did what we like to do most - PLAY GAMES! Even though language was a barrier, our S-Trip! Travelers quickly learned that having fun is universal.
During our March program, we changed the windows and doors of the school, and fixed up the garden. This time around, we took on several more projects, such as building a water well, installing a fence around the school, and painting the front of the building in a beautiful shade of blue!
This school still has many more projects in mind, and we are hopeful that with the support of our S-Trip! travelers, the community will be able to make it all happen! Check out the before and after shots below for an example of how much of a difference we can make in just a few short days.

Escuela Primaria Angel Gutierrez certainly stands out in the community now! What a happy place to live and learn.
